Peacock Bass — Pinima
Cichla pinima

Local / Portuguese name
Tucunaré-Pinima
Scientific name
Cichla pinima
Typical size
Up to 30 in.; comparable in size to the Açu.
Habitat
Lower Amazon floodplain and estuary tributaries, distinct range from the Rio Negro species.
More Detail
Close kin to the Açu and easily confused with it as juveniles, the Pinima carries a large ocellated black spot beneath the dorsal fin and less defined 'war paint' on the face. It grows big, hits hard, and holds its own with the best-fighting peacock species in the river.
